History of Women and the UN

Solana Larsen

I told my friend, who works for the UN, that I would be blogging the CSW next week. He pulled a book out his bag, and told me not to tell anyone he had given it to me. Ah, what friend’s will do to make it seem like they are leaking documents from global institutions. The book was not secret, but it was helpful.

It’s an updated version of a book (development dossier) from 2002 which is also available online. It’s called “Engendering the Global Agenda: The Story of Women and the United Nations” by Hilkka Pietilä. In very brief and simple language it explains how women’s issues (and women themselves) became a part of the United Nations. I recommend it.
